Teach Kids to Read for FREE

I'm very excited to share these next three sites with you to help you teach an early reader!

Reading Bear
This site has been made possible by an anonymous donor. You can choose to register or not register with Reading Bear. Use this site to help a child learn vocabulary and learn to sound out words. I've been registered with Reading Bear for more than a year without any problems or spam.

Starfall
Starfall has been around since September of 2002. Many elementary teachers, preschool teachers, child care providers, and parents use this program. Phonics are presented systematically and phonemic awareness is practiced with this free to the public online reading program.

Parent Phonics Training
Parents will find easy to follow techniques and tips to teach phonics through video and flash animation. Specific topics can be repeated or skipped. You're going to learn a lot about phonics with this training. This free phonics training is provided by Reading Horizons. I've personally used two of their online reading programs. Currently I use a Reading Horizons' teaching manual with students I tutor. Reading Horizons has reading programs for 4 - 9 year olds and ages 10-adult.

Wow thank you so much! I teach self contained 7th grade and this year I have a student who does not speak English and has never been to school before so she can't read or write in her native tongue either. This will help so much!!! Thank you!!

great list. I haven't heard of reading bear but just glancing at it, it looks like it would be good for my oldest who is starting to do some independent reading!
