Children Love Books Even More When They Know the Author

Check out these next two links:
You'll find over 100 video interviews with children's book authors here. Find an interesting author and check out a number of books from your library by that author.
My family's local library has children's books organized by the author's last name. Sometimes my children and I chose one or two authors and checked out as many books as we could find from the authors. We kept the books for a month and read our favorites many times.

I'm excited to see an interview with Judy Blume. My eight year old son loved her book, Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing.

If you like to get to know authors, you should follow the blog Happy Birthday Author. This blog celebrates different children's book authors on their birthdays. You'll find a ton of information, videos, books and links to resources about and by the celebrated author.

Have fun getting to know an author and enjoying reading with your children!

This is a great link and a great idea. I agree that it's important to know the author. Thanks.

I love the idea of getting to know an author. I am thinking of preschool children and how helping a very young child learn about an author through a website is the beginning of learning how to do research. But it also helps the child connect beloved books to the very real person who wrote them.

I agree. My boys have always loved the opportunity to meet the author of books they love OR read a book once they learn about the author.

Once they discover an author or illustrator they love they tend to read more by them. Favorites: Roald Dahl, Jon Scieszka, Peter Reynolds, Tony DeTerlizzi, Eric Carle, Lauren Child, and Chris Van Alsburg.

Thank you for mentioning my blog. I totally agree that children love books even more when they know the author. We have had so much celebrating author after author. The coolest part is when my kids refer to the authors by name - "I love Graeme Base books!" or my three year old will hand me a book and say "This is a good author."

Our favorites at our house are Todd Parr, Charise Mericle Harper, Kate McMullan, Nancy Carlson, and Jez Alborough!

I can't wait to post my next birthday post in the next few days. Your family will like it too. It is Denise Fleming on January 31!
